The Town of Scarborough is seeking applicants for a seasonal GIS Intern position. This internship opportunity is of a technical nature, intended to provide support to the GIS Administrator and the Town Engineer with a variety of assignments within the Engineering & Technical Services Department.
The GIS intern will assist with the development and implementation of the Town of Scarborough's Geographical Information System (GIS). This position, under the guidance of the GIS Administrator, will be responsible for collecting updated field data and inputting basic condition assessments of its assets. The results of these assessments will be incorporated into the Town's GIS, asset management program, and will ultimately provide the basis for the prioritization and scheduling of capital improvement projects. This position will also be required to edit GIS data, review and verify data, and assist in office tasks as assigned by the Town Engineer.
Position Requirements: Desirable applicants must have excellent computer, written and verbal communication skills; have some working knowledge in GIS applications such as ArcPro, ArcMap and/or ArcGIS Online; and have the ability to multi-task and work independently. Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent and be enrolled in a two- or four-year degree program in engineering, computer science, or applied GIS; equivalent combination of experience and training will also be considered. Must have successfully completed one term of post-secondary education with a successful completion of at least one GIS class. Valid Class C Maine driver's license.
