The Role: Nurse’s Office & Health Leadership
We are seeking a dedicated and organized
School Nurse to manage the daily operations of the
Nurse’s Office. This is a frontline clinical role responsible for providing direct care, managing medical protocols, and ensuring a healthy campus environment for both day and residential students.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care & Diagnostics
- Provide physical and mental health assessments, first aid, and frontline testing (e.g., strep, UA, rapid tests).
- Manage medication disbursement and secure storage for day and boarding students.
- Administer vaccines and ensure 100% compliance with the Maine Immunization Program.
- Coordinate comprehensive care plans for students with 504 plans.
Operations & Safety
- Oversee the daily operations of the Nurse’s Office, including clinical supply budgets and medical standing orders.
- Maintain all campus AEDs and emergency response kits; coordinate necessary repairs and staff training.
- Serve as a key member of the Student Services, Crisis Management, and Emergency Management Teams.
- Support health and safety planning for field trips and off-campus events.
Collaboration & Education
- Partner with school social workers, athletic trainers, and the Residential Life team to provide holistic support.
- Lead school-wide communications on public health issues and liaise with MaineHealth.
- Conduct annual health and safety training for faculty and staff as required by the DOE.
- Advise kitchen and dorm staff on food allergy protocols and safety standards.
Qualifications
- Licensure: Current Maine LPN or RN license required.
- Certification: Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Compliance: Must have or be able to obtain a Maine Criminal History Record Check (CHRC).
- Experience: Previous experience in a school-based setting is strongly preferred.
