DIRECTOR OF ADULT/COMMUNITY EDUCATION

Job Goal(s)
Develop and implement flexible, accessible programming, including high school completion, HiSET preparation, college and career readiness, digital literacy, family literacy, multilingual learning, workforce training, and enrichment courses.
- Assess local needs by working closely with administration, K-12 staff, community members, employers, and regional and statewide partners
- Experience with DOE reporting and the use of data to inform decision making
- Expand programming through creative solutions
- The ideal candidate will be energetic, organized, and compassionate and will possess excellent communication skills and a collaborative work style.
Certifications
- Maine DOE Adult Education Director Certification (066)
Performance Responsibilities
- Create, manage, and monitor a yearly overall program budget
- Write and oversee federal, state, county, and local budgets and grants
- Meet all federal, state, county, and local reporting deadlines
- Interview, hire, and train new employees
- Supervise and evaluate coordinators, advisors, teachers, and support staff
- Arrange and deliver staff development
- Oversee HiSET testing program and serve as HiSET Chief Examiner
- Management of data collection and reporting
- Support the goals and objectives of the school system
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of exceptionalities, effective ways to meet the special needs of exceptional students and how to appropriately provide services
- Develop and manage the selection and marketing of adult education programs
- Prepare and control payroll
- Grant writing and budget management
- Inform, invite, and involve the community in a collaborative manner with goal setting an implementation of collaborative ventures
- Participate with other district administrators to ensure quality instructional programs
- Oversee and approve course offerings and hires
- Participate in Workforce Development special projects, workshops, and summits with area partners
- Participate in county, state, and national activities designed to improve adult/community education
- Support and oversee the implementation of the educational standards in the academic programming
Education
- Master’s Degree in Educational Administration preferred
Experience
- Three years teaching experience and minimum 2 years administrative experience, including work with budgets, preferred
Working Schedule
- Full-time, year-round position

- Travel is required for this positions
Reports To: Building Principal/Director/Superintendent of Schools
Terms of Employment: As recommended by the Superintendent and approved by the Board of Directors.
Evaluation
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s Policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
FLSA Status: Exempt
