Bread and Friends is hiring a dinner line cook!
Bread & Friends is a bakery and restaurant in the Old Port neighborhood of Portland, ME whose mission is to foster community through delicious food that is meant to be shared. We specialize in naturally leavened breads, artisan pastries, and elevated sharing plates for brunch and dinner, complemented by a coffee program at brunch, as well as wine, beer and low ABV delights at dinner.
About this position:
We are looking to fill a rare position on our dinner team, and are looking for cooks with at least two years' experience who are looking to build upon what they already know and are eager to learn more. We have a fully renovated and remodeled kitchen with high quality equipment, including a custom made wood burning oven/grill. Our dinner menu features hand-made pasta, fermentation, and wood-fired cooking across all stations, and those techniques and more will be used daily at B&F.
Cooks will be working alongside Jeremy Broucek, Chef/Owner, who was a James Beard Award Semi-Finalist for Best Chef: Northeast in 2026, and was recognized as a Coastal New England Rising Star by Star Chefs in 2023.
This is a full time, year round position. Shifts are about 10 hours, 4 days a week (Thursday - Sunday).
Position duties include:
Managing a clean and organized station.
Being able to call and prioritize orders as they come in.
Knowledge of proper execution of all dishes on the menu.
Working as a team with your fellow line cooks/chefs/bakers/FOH.
Working with a sense of urgency throughout the shift.
Upholding high standards for yourself and others.
The ability to understand and create detailed prep lists.
Learning and understanding recipes, including knowledge of the correct pars and shelf life of ingredients.
Having sharp knives that enable you to work efficiently.
Learning / Understanding product handling, care and storage of products and ingredients
Knowing proper knife cuts
Cooking techniques as demonstrated by Chef such as making emulsions, searing, roasting, frying, braising, confiting, grilling, and sous vide.
Sample dishes on our dinner menu include:
Grilled oysters with shiro dashi pearls, pickled apple, and kelp butter
Sunchoke cappelletti in black futsu squash brodo with shaved truffles
Dry-aged duck breast with five spice jus, poached kumquats, and parsnip
Qualifications:
Professional kitchen experience or other relevant experience/education is required.
Ability to multitask, work in a team environment, and communicate efficiently and effectively.
Ability to work efficiently and maintain a calm and friendly demeanor in a fast paced, high volume environment.
Can meet physical demands of position including pulling, pushing, carrying and lifting up to 50lbs, and standing for extended periods of time.

Hourly pay of $25-$35/hour, depending on the season. Pay structure is $17/hour base pay + tips + fair wage fee.
