Position Overview:
The Product Coordinator for Potatoes, Onions, and Exotics (POE) manages the product lifecycle for these crop categories, from variety selection and supplier relationships to pricing, marketing, inventory, and quality assurance. This role combines product development, market analysis, purchasing, and promotion to support the growth and success of the POE product line. The ideal candidate is passionate about agriculture, data-driven decision-making bringing new innovative products to market, and becoming a market expert in these crops. This position will be full-time during the spring shipping and receiving season (January-May) and part-time the rest of the year, with opportunity for more hours as the product line grows.
Key Responsibilities
Product Strategy & Development
- Manage the product portfolio, including variety selection, lifecycle management, and market positioning for potatoes, onions, and exotics (ginger and turmeric).
- Develop and maintain a product roadmap aligned with company goals.
- Research customer trends, competitor offerings, and market opportunities.
- Coordinate variety trials, evaluate results, and identify new innovative products.
- Develop growing guides, product resources, and staff training materials.
- Collaborate with suppliers, growers, and internal teams to successfully launch new products.
Market Research & Analysis
- Analyze sales, market trends, and customer feedback to guide product decisions.
- Monitor competitor activities and identify opportunities for product line improvement and expansion.
- Visit gardens, farms, and field days to discover new product varieties and observe current selections.
- Conduct annual pricing reviews and support pricing strategy development.
Marketing Activities
- Create and maintain product descriptions, educational content, and promotional materials.
- Work with the catalog team to produce Fedco’s annual seeds and supplies catalog.
- Collaborate with various teams on website content, social media, and marketing campaigns.
- Lead annual product training for customer service staff.
Purchasing & Inventory Management
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships.
- Purchase products, manage invoices, and adjust orders as needed.
- Monitor inventory levels, sales trends, and product availability.
- Work with our inventory team to maintain accurate inventory and product records;
- Work with the OGS operations team to schedule product deliveries.
- Oversee the POE drop shipping program and coordinate with various stakeholders to ensure smooth processes, accurate pricing, and appropriate packaging.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Establish best practices for product handling, storage, and quality standards.
- Support receiving and shipping operations to ensure product quality.
- Ensure that all POE crops have passed the appropriate virus testing and comply with any applicable import requirements.
- Maintain organic certification records and participate in annual inspections.
- Monitor regulatory requirements for POE crops and coordinate all compliance efforts.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience in the farm and garden industry with a broad familiarity with small-scale agricultural practices.
- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
- Project management experience and ability to collaborate across teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with marketing, sales, purchasing, or product management preferred.
- Proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, and standard office software.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- An understanding of cooperative values, and a willingness to work in a cooperative structure.
