Transportation Supervisor: The Transportation Supervisor is a part-time role (25–30 hours per week) responsible for the oversight of district transportation operations. Key duties include managing and optimizing daily bus routes, supervising drivers and staff, overseeing vehicle maintenance, and managing the department budget and long-term fleet replacement strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Route Management & Optimization: Design, implement, and adjust daily bus and van routes to ensure safe, punctual, and efficient student transportation for regular school days, field trips, and special events.
- Team Leadership & Employee Management: Supervise, schedule, evaluate, and support all district drivers and transportation staff, fostering a positive culture focused on student safety and regulatory compliance.
- Maintenance Oversight: Direct the district mechanic and oversee the preventative maintenance program for all buses and vans to ensure maximum vehicle uptime, safety, and compliance with state inspection standards.
- Budgeting & Financial Stewardship: Develop, monitor, and manage the annual transportation department budget, ensuring cost-effective operations and resource allocation.
- Long-Term Strategic Planning: Maintain and manage the district’s 10-year fleet replacement plan, forecasting future vehicle needs and aligning purchases with capital budget cycles.
Position Qualifications
- Experience: 3–5 years of experience in transportation operations or logistics management, with preference given to student transportation or school district experience.
- Leadership Skills: Proven track record of managing and evaluating personnel, including drivers and mechanical/maintenance staff.
- Financial & Strategic Acumen: Demonstrated experience with departmental budgeting and long-term strategic planning (e.g., capital asset management or fleet replacement planning).
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of student transportation routing software, fleet maintenance schedules, and state/federal student transportation regulations (DOT, FMCSA).
- Licensing & Certifications: * Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements preferred (or willingness to obtain).
- Clean driving record and ability to pass required state background checks and drug screenings.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with district administration, school boards, parents, and community members.
Pay: Up to $45,000.00 per year
