GENERAL INFORMATION: Department: City Clerk
Barg. Unit: MSEA (Maine State Employees Association)
Status: Full-Time (37.5 hours/week, 4 day work week based upon city hall scheduled hours). Overtime occasionally required.
Grade: 13 ($21.42-$24.10)
SUMMARY: The Assistant City Clerks are responsible for clerical work assisting in the daily operations of the City Clerk’s Department and report to the Deputy City Clerk. Processes various citizen requests at the public service window including, but not limited to: issuance of hunting, fishing and dog licenses; issuing certified copies of birth, marriage and death certificates; processing marriage and business licenses; conducting genealogy research; processing voter registration records and preparing election materials; and other tasks as required. Completes mail processing, filing and data entry. Participates in all aspects of election processes. May act as one of the City Hall switchboard operators, handling routine inquiries regarding departmental functions and directing calls and members of the public to appropriate departmental officials. Extensive in-person customer service experience and ability to multi-task well are needed for this highly interactive position.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Must have two (2) to three (3) years clerical experience in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of City, State and departmental policies and regulations relating to licensing, elections, and vital records preferred.
