Overnight Field Service Representative
$21.43/hour + Mileage Reimbursement + Vehicle Stipends
Full-Time | South Portland, ME | Overnight
Are you a night owl who enjoys driving, working independently, and having your days
free?
Maine Trust for Local News, publisher of the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday
Telegram, is looking for a dependable Field Service & Delivery Representative to join
our overnight Circulation team.
This position combines distribution operations with route delivery. You'll start your night
at our South Portland distribution facility helping prepare newspapers for delivery, then
spend the majority of your shift on the road delivering routes that need coverage.
If you enjoy driving, working independently, and having a job where you're not stuck
behind a desk all night, this could be a great fit.
WHAT A TYPICAL SHIFT LOOKS LIKE
Each shift begins at our South Portland distribution facility, with start times typically
ranging from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
During the first couple of hours of your shift, you'll help prepare the night's newspaper
distribution operation by:
Completing daily operational paperwork
Organizing and stacking newspapers for our independent delivery contractors
Distributing newspapers and supplies to contractors
Making sure contractors have what they need to complete their routes
Once distribution is underway, you'll head out on the road.
The majority of your shift will typically be spent independently delivering newspaper
routes that are currently without a regular carrier.
Routes and locations vary based on where coverage is needed, so you won't
necessarily drive the same route every night.
Occasionally, you'll also help train a new delivery contractor, taking them out on their
assigned route and helping them learn the delivery process.
PAY, VEHICLE REIMBURSEMENT & BENEFITS
Because you'll use your personal vehicle for route delivery, we provide several forms of
vehicle-related compensation:
$21.43/hour
Overtime after 37.5 hours worked per week
Mileage reimbursement for work-related driving
$25 per day vehicle wear-and-tear stipend when delivering
Up to $1,000 per year vehicle maintenance reimbursement, with eligibility
beginning after 60 days of employment
$40/month cell phone stipend
Shared tips
Full-time benefits including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), paid time off, and
more
YOUR SCHEDULE
This is a full-time overnight position averaging 37.5 hours per week.
Start times vary depending on the night's operation and typically fall between 9:00 p.m.
and 11:00 p.m.
Because newspaper delivery volume, route assignments, weather, and other
operational needs can vary from night to night, there is not a scheduled daily end time.
Most shifts are completed between approximately 6:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.
Our schedule follows a six-week rotation. Because we do not deliver newspapers on
Monday mornings, every Monday is off, and the rotation includes one three-day
weekend every six weeks.
Weekend and holiday availability is required.
There is no newspaper delivery on Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
You don't need previous newspaper delivery experience — we'll train you.
We're looking for someone who:
Enjoys driving and is comfortable spending the majority of the shift on the road
Is comfortable working overnight hours
Is dependable, punctual, and able to work independently
Is flexible and comfortable with different routes and assignments
Has good communication and problem-solving skills
Has a valid driver's license and good driving record
Has a reliable, insured personal vehicle
Has basic computer and email skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Outlook
Is comfortable occasionally training new delivery contractors
Is available to work overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts as scheduled
Previous delivery, driving, distribution, or logistics experience is helpful, but not required.
WHY THIS JOB MAY BE A GREAT FIT
This position may be right for you if you're looking for:
Full-time overnight work with your days free
A job where much of your shift is spent independently on the road
Variety instead of doing the exact same thing every night
Every Monday off
A three-day weekend every six weeks
Mileage reimbursement plus additional vehicle compensation
Full-time benefits and paid time off
A role where you can work independently while still being part of a team
If you're dependable, comfortable behind the wheel, and looking for a full-time overnight
position with a mix of driving and distribution operations, we'd like to hear from you.
