Occupational Therapist

Specific Job Details:
- Starting Fall 2024
- Part-time - 4 Days/Week
- Under the general supervision of the Director of Pupil Services, to lead the process in the development, implementation, and coordination of the school district's occupational therapy program for students with disabilities or physical/mental impairments by developing individualized programming based on occupational performance deficits activities of daily living, including personal care, interaction skills, community integration, work, and communication.
Brief Job Duties:
The ideal candidate will have experience in the following areas:
- Develops, implements and coordinates the school district's occupational therapy program within the school district, including philosophy, vision, procedures and goals.
- Screens, evaluates and monitors students with disabilities or physical mental impairments for the purpose of providing educational programs, therapeutic intervention, and transition and exit planning and enhancing their ability to perform activities of daily living or participate in desired occupations.
- Collaborates with staff to ensure team understanding of student occupational performance strengths and needs, as well as student outcomes.
- Evaluates the student's ability and formulates the student's occupational profile, providing written reports that reflects strengths and barriers to student participation in the educational environment and guides evidence-based intervention.
- Participates in the development of Individualized Education Programs.
- Provides targeted, evidence-based therapeutic intervention to facilitate student participation and occupational performance within the school environment.
- Assesses the need for assistive technology and equipment and makes recommendations for its use at school to help students function as independently as possible.
- Documents occupational therapy services, and maintains records in accordance with school district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.
- Supervises Occupational Therapy Assistants as needed.
- Plans, coordinates, and conducts continuing education for school staff, parents, and students.
- Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research, and by maintaining professional relationships.
- Certification/License:State Certification to practice as evidenced by current state licensure as an Occupational Therapist.
- Initial certification by National Board for Certification of Occupational Therapy.
- Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
- Criminal History Record Check (CHRC), which includes Fingerprints on file with the Maine Department of Education
- Education:Bachelors from an accredited college or university in related field.
- Graduation from an accredited program of occupational therapy recognized by NBCOT.
Experience:
Successful prior experience working as an Occupational Therapist, preferably in an educational or other pediatric practice setting.

COMMITMENT TO STUDENTS
Faculty and staff recognize the individuality of

Learning will not be governed by bells, class
periods, and top-down instruction. Instruction-
al leadership in Biddeford will move toward the
facilitation of learning at all levels.
Teachers will continue to utilize the power of
formative assessments to modify instruction to
best meet the needs of our students.
All faculty and staff, ranging from instructional
personnel to bus drivers to athletics coaches to
food service workers, will better understand
how chronic stress and adverse childhood expe-
riences inform student behavior.
District leadership will allocate resources for
additional staff to support teachers and students
who work to better understand and mitigate the
impact of trauma day in, day out.
Instructional personnel will work together
to refine and expand a curriculum of social-
emotional learning.
All faculty and staff will redouble efforts to
engage the families of “new Mainers,” and sup-
port the programs and staff required to educate
those for whom English is a second language.
We will begin a three-year cycle of aligning
and reinforcing our efforts around inter-
vention. Students who struggle will be met
earlier, with greater intentionality, and will
realize better outcomes. Students who excel will
engage in rigorous learning opportunities.
Everyone is a teacher of literacy. Professional
support for parents, faculty and staff will be
paired with refinements to curricula, schedule,
outreach, and summer programs to support
increased student literacy.
As Biddeford becomes younger, more
diverse, and continues an economic
and cultural renaissance, our schools
must also change. We are a caring
faculty and staff who want our stu-
dents to be healthy, balanced, and
equipped to compete in post-second-
ary pursuits. We will improve academ-
ic and social-emotional outcomes with
a laserlike focus on three foundational
pillars in the next five years.
