About the Opportunity:
The shift lead acts as the production lead on the floor and is responsible for training staff, answering questions from the production team, managing production runs, and ensuring production equipment is operating efficiently and safely. The shift lead ensures that everything on their shift meets all requirements related to production, record keeping, safety, and quality. The shift lead ensures production procedures are carried out safely and effectively to maximize equipment uptime and product quality. They work with Machine Operators to diagnose equipment issues. They are responsible for performing routine preventative maintenance on the equipment to ensure machines are running smoothly. The shift lead works closely with Maintenance Technicians to ensure any equipment issues that fall outside the shift lead capabilities are diagnosed and troubleshot efficiently and safely.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee production shift and communicate work orders, and tasks, monitor performance, and provide training to ensure production schedules are met.
- Effectively communicate information to shift team members provided by the director of operations and leadership team
- Operate production machinery as prescribed by the equipment manufacturer and company procedures
- Train employees on standard operating procedures and how to operate equipment safely
- First to answer employee questions and troubleshoot equipment issues
- Troubleshoot mechanical components, and correct issues as necessary to maintain productivity and/or quality standards
- Perform described preventative maintenance on machines as required
- Interface with computerized maintenance management software (CMMS) to document maintenance work, parts usage, root cause analysis, and preventive measures.
- Ensure optimum operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements of all equipment
- Adjust machinery controls to optimize product yield and quality
- Set up machines according to specification and prepare them for production runs
- Detect and report questionable conditions to the department Supervisor/Manager
- Safely use a forklift or pallet jack to stack pallets, transport materials, and load/unload trucks
- Maintain a clean orderly work area and following prescribed safety regulations
- Maintain and clean production system, stock prep, tanks, and other equipment to ensure optimal product quality and safety.
- Remain familiar and up to date with the basic machine functions to troubleshoot issues and collaborate with the Maintenance Technician to solve equipment issues
- Handle end-of-line procedures by checking product quality, logging necessary product info, and packing dry products.
- Prepare pulp to be weighed and batched into the stock prep system
- Operate and batch raw material to the pulper
- Operate die-cutting machine to trim product and pack the product for shipment
- Assist with tooling changeover, cleaning, and preparation for storage
- Operate chemical pumps to dose correct amounts of chemistry for production runs.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe work environment
- Assist with equipment changeovers and ensure all relevant production information is communicated effectively
- Perform other work-related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum 5 years in factory related experience and or mechanical experience
- Proven experience as a machine operator in a manufacturing setting.
- 2 years of experience leading shifts
- Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
- Must be able to read and interpret drawings, add, subtract, multiply, divide, and use basic hand-held measuring tools
- Experience in dealing with mechanical, hydraulics, pneumatics, PLC and instrumentation
- Ability to understand, operate, and troubleshoot mechanical systems and devices
- Read and understand operating manuals.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to lead a production team
Work Schedule:
Days: Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday
Shift length: 13-hour
Shift time: 6:30am-7:30pm

Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to a plant environment including moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and explosives. Safety Glasses must be worn at all times. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
