Clinical Nurse Manager (RN/APRN)
Location: Greater Portland, Maine Area
Schedule: Full-Time | Monday–Friday
A well-established, high-volume specialty medical practice (physician owned), is seeking a Clinical Nurse Manager. This is a confidential search for a key leadership role supporting a collaborative team of physicians and advanced practice providers in a fast-paced outpatient environment.
The Clinical Nurse Manager will oversee clinical operations, supervise staff, and ensure the delivery of high-quality, efficient, and patient-centered care. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence workflows, optimize patient experience, and contribute to the continued success of a respected medical practice.
This position functions as a working manager role, requiring both leadership and active participation in the team’s daily responsibilities. In addition to overseeing performance and driving results, the manager is expected to step in and perform team tasks as needed, ensuring seamless operations and maintaining high standards of execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage daily clinical department operations
- Supervise, schedule, and support clinical staff to ensure optimal performance
- Drive improvements in patient flow, care delivery, and operational efficiency
- Oversee telephone triage, prescription refills, and prior authorization processes
- Ensure timely and professional communication via phone and patient portals
- Develop, implement, and maintain clinical policies and procedures
- Partner with leadership on hiring, onboarding, and staff development
- Train and mentor clinical team members while ensuring competency standards
- Collaborate closely with providers to support patient care and practice productivity
- Maintain compliance with regulatory, safety, and infection control standards
- Participate in hands-on clinical care, including treatments, injections and tasks
- Oversee clinical supply management and exam room readiness
- Respond effectively to urgent and emergency situations
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced training in healthcare leadership preferred
- Active Maine RN or APRN license
- Current BLS certification (American Heart Association)
- Minimum of 5 years of direct patient care experience
- Proven leadership experience in a medical office or clinical setting
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities and lead through change
- Experience with EHR systems and Microsoft Office tools
- Demonstrated ability to motivate, train, and develop staff
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Primarily office-based with direct patient interaction
- Frequent movement including walking, standing, bending, and reaching
- Occasional lifting (up to 50 lbs) and pushing equipment
- Exposure to clinical environments, including infectious materials (PPE provided)
- Business casual attire; use of protective equipment as needed
