Waterville Senior High School is seeking an outstanding, certified High School Art Teacher to join our Visual Arts department and inspire students for the 2026-27 school year. The successful candidate will teach a variety of art courses and demonstrate a strong commitment to student learning, creativity, and academic growth. This educator will possess a deep understanding of child and adolescent developmental needs and will create a supportive classroom environment where all students feel encouraged to explore, express, and develop their artistic abilities.
The ideal candidate will bring strong instructional art experience and the ability to design and deliver engaging, standards-based lessons that meet the diverse needs of high school learners. Effective communication skills are essential, as the teacher will collaborate regularly with students, colleagues, families, and administrators to support student success and contribute positively to the school community. The candidate must also demonstrate the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with students and colleagues, fostering a respectful, inclusive, and creative learning environment.
The city of Waterville is located on the banks of the Kennebec River and is easily accessible from two exits off I-95 as well as Route 201. Primary Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging art lessons aligned with district and state standards
- Teach a variety of art techniques, media, and art history concepts
- Encourage creativity, self-expression, and critical thinking in students
- Assess and evaluate student work, providing constructive feedback
- Maintain a safe, organized, and inclusive classroom environment
- Manage classroom behavior and promote positive student conduct
- Prepare and organize art materials, tools, and equipment
- Display student artwork and support school art showcases or exhibitions
- Adapt instruction to meet diverse learning needs and abilities
- Communicate regularly with students and families regarding progress
- Perform other duties as assigned by administration
Qualifications
- State Certification as a High School Level Art Teacher
- Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignments.
- Successful prior art teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
- Organizational skills, ability to implement positive supports for all students, and ability to work cooperatively with others.
