Job Summary
Ironwood Farm is hiring a full-time, year-round Greenhouse Production Coordinator to join our skilled and motivated farm team. We are an organic farm that specializes in retail packaged salad greens and other produce for wholesale to Coops and grocery stores across the state of Maine. This individual will take the lead on day-to-day operations in our bustling microgreens production house, our deep winter salad greens production space, and the production of seedlings for field production come spring. Experience working intensively in a production greenhouse is a plus, but not required. Exceptional attention to detail and an ability to follow production SOP’s a must. Seeding, daily plant-care, watering, environmental regulation and harvest all fall in this positions scope of work. Other staff members regularly assist in these spaces, but this position will coordinate execution of tasks and quality control.
This is not a seasonal position, our greenhouses (and farm) operate at full tilt year-round. Our greenhouses are outfitted with heat and supplemental light so we are able to maintain tight production schedules through the darkest, coldest months and our coolers are packed with storage crops to sell all winter to complement our salad offerings.
Duties
- Coordinate daily production activities to ensure timely completion of tasks including seeding, watering, plant care, harvest and record keeping.
- Oversee irrigation systems and manage water usage for optimal plant growth.
- Conduct regular inspections of crops and greenhouse conditions to monitor health and growth.
- Adhere strictly to our food safety practices
- Collaborate with team members to complete the tasks of the day
- Maintain accurate records of production data, including production data, harvest data and crop observations.
- Engage in heavy lifting as required for planting, harvesting, or moving materials.
- Regularly participate in washing, and packing produce, and field operations (including planting, cultivation, and harvest)
Qualifications
- Proven experience in horticulture, agriculture, or related fields is preferred.
- Familiarity with greenhouse operations and maintenance is highly desirable.
- Basic math skills for measuring and calculating resources needed for production.
- Ability to perform outdoor work under varying weather conditions.
- Capacity for heavy lifting as part of daily responsibilities.
- A good sense of humor, a love of hard work and an eye for efficiency!
We are a small but mighty crew of highly motivated, ambitious farmers– we all, including the owners, work hands on in the operation daily. This position will also regularly participate in washing, and packing produce, and field operations (including planting, cultivation, and harvest). This is physical work, and applicants should be confident that they’ll be able to lift, bend, and stand all day, and as well as work regularly in the elements (heat, rain, cold). This position has been graced with fabulous folks over the years, and the result is a well-oiled machine that will be easy and enjoyable to step into. Our weeks are well organized and predictable, our staff is competent and good natured, we prioritize clear communication and have deep respect for our staff and their contribution to this operation.
Applicants who have commercial vegetable or greenhouse experience are strongly preferred, but it isn’t required. This job is greenhouse focused but will encompass all the varied and fabulous tasks required to grow produce.
