John F. Murphy Homes is seeking a knowledgeable and compassionate Infection Preventionist (IP) to oversee the facility’s Infection Prevention and Control Program (IPCP). This position plays an important role in maintaining a safe, sanitary environment and preventing the development and transmission of communicable diseases and healthcare-associated infections.
The Infection Preventionist ensures compliance with applicable CMS, CDC, ICF-IID, DHHS/OADS, licensing, JFM, and state and federal requirements while providing education, monitoring, and leadership related to infection prevention.
- Oversee and maintain the facility’s Infection Prevention and Control Program.
- Conduct infection surveillance, data collection, observation, analysis, and follow-up.
- Monitor and educate employees and people supported on hand hygiene, respiratory etiquette, standard precautions, and transmission-based precautions.
- Develop, review, and update infection prevention, emergency preparedness, and related policies and procedures.
- Stay current with CDC guidance, CMS requirements, Appendix Z, ICF-IID regulations, and other applicable standards.
- Facilitate the Infection Control Committee and participate in Department Head, nursing, staff training, and shift meetings as required.
- Partner with Environmental Services on cleaning, disinfection, sterilization, linen management, water management, and other infection-control practices.
- Implement and support the facility’s Antibiotic Stewardship Program.
- Provide infection prevention guidance related to wound care, medical devices, medications, sharps, occupational health, and care transitions.
- Assist with testing strategies and emergency preparedness efforts.
- Provide infection prevention education and training to employees.
- Review relevant reports and documentation and communicate necessary follow-up to nursing and direct support staff.
- Identify and address safety concerns involving the facility, grounds, and vehicles.
- Immediately report suspected abuse, neglect, exploitation, or substandard care according to agency requirements.
- Advocate for the health, safety, and well-being of the people we support.
- Professional training in nursing, medical technology, microbiology, epidemiology, or a related field.
- Qualified through appropriate education, training, experience, and/or certification, such as CIC or IP-BC.
- Specialized infection prevention and control training, such as CDC Infection Control Training Modules.
- Knowledge of infection prevention practices and applicable healthcare regulations.
- Strong communication, collaboration, organization, and professional judgment.
- Caring, patient, team-oriented approach with the ability to provide education and lead by example.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position, including prolonged standing/walking, bending, pushing, pulling, repositioning individuals, and lifting up to 50 lbs. or ¼ of body weight, whichever is less.
- Must be available to work part-time at the facility.

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $29.28-$40.99 per hour (or $60,902.40-$85,259.20 annually), depending on qualifications, experience, education, and other job-related factors. Eligible employees are also offered a comprehensive benefits package.
