Join Portland Water District (PWD) as our Safety Specialist. This position is the project, information and communication hub for all safety and safety-related training activities across the Portland Water District. The Safety Specialist raises safety awareness across PWD through training, the coordination of safety efforts, accident investigations and onsite inspections. Develops and enforces policies to establish and maintain a culture of safety awareness, including evaluating and monitoring safety practices and procedures across all of our facilities to assess risk and legal compliance. Performs tasks and supports activities/programs associated with the Human Resource function, and must maintain strict confidentiality.
The Safety Specialist provides technical and process guidance to all levels of PWD, ensures safety compliance through policies and procedures for normal and emergency situations. This requires an experienced safety professional who is knowledgeable and stays current on applicable State, Federal and local laws and ordinances. Coordinates and maintains the SDS database, creates positive work relations and establishing effective communication methods, strong written and verbal skills essential, highly organized, and is data driven.
A minimum of four (4) years of safety/compliance experience or an Associate’s degree and a minimum of two (2) years direct work experience is required. Trainer and HR experience is also preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Word/Excel and PowerPoint is required as well as demonstrated skill in project management.
