Tandem Mobility hires local mechanics to oversee daily operations, collaborating with our Director of Operations to ensure program success. We are teamed up with Movatic, a premium software platform that powers the rental and operations experience.
About this Position:
The Field Service Technician position is integral to the success of Portland Bikeshare. Each bike mechanic on the team will be responsible for evaluating, repairing, and maintaining both traditional geared cruiser and electric assist bikes. Duties such as bike maintenance and balancing bikes between stations will be performed both in the warehouse and out in the field, with the support of the local Operations Director/Head Mechanic. Your initial responsibilities will focus on building and deploying bikes and stations; once the program scales up to the full size of 150 pedal bikes and 50 e-bikes, this role will be focused on day-to-day operations and maintenance.
We can work with your availability, and can accommodate either a Full Time or Part Time commitment.
Primary Responsibilities Ongoing:
● Ensuring all bikes receive routine maintenance every two weeks.
● Performing in field maintenance on pedal bikes, and e-bikes.
● Performing more complex repairs in the ops space.
● Communicating with local Operations Manager about parts as needed to minimize downtime for each bike.
● Participating in city/sponsor events as needed.
● Rebalancing bikes as needed.
Requirements:
Mechanical
● We are not necessarily looking for a master mechanic, but we need someone who can do quality, safe, and repeatable work. We want somebody who holds themselves to a high standard: proactively identifying issues, creating plans for resolution, and escalating any parts or additional requests in a timely manner to the local Operations Manager.
● Ability to lift and transport several 40 pound bikes depending on need.
● Ability to use a smartphone and camera to communicate over phone calls, text, email.
● Ability to travel and transport bikes between locations as necessary.
Professional:
● Ability to keep oneself accountable to a set of goals, and schedule themselves accordingly.
● Strong communication skills, willingness to communicate status updates and context.
● Flexibility to work with varying schedules and workloads.
● Detail focused and good judgment/common sense, able to make some decisions on one's own without full information.
● Able to think critically and proactively to escalate concerns and ideas.
● Able to be a professional and friendly public face for Tandem while out and about.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $16.00 - $17.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 25 per week
