TOWN OF STANDISH TRANSFER STATION MANAGER
JOB TITLE: Transfer Station Manager
Narrative: The Transfer Station Manager is highly motivated, performing various functions that have a higher degree of authority and responsibility and acts with a great degree of independence. Individuals in this position takes on a variety of tasks in and around the transfer station consisting of both administrative and operational functions. As a Transfer Station Manager, they must assure that the materials being deposited are legal and properly sorted and that the facility continues to effectively store, handle and transfer solid waste to their next destination. Utmost to their position is the constant interaction with the public providing information that is educational.
Level of Supervision: Supervision is provided to this position by the Director or Deputy Director of Public Works as needed. This position provides supervision to other personnel within the division.
Requirements: Demonstrated successful experience in the solid waste field with progressive responsibilities and successful solid waste recycling and reduction programs. Individuals must be able to lift weights above their shoulders in excess of 50 pounds, be able to reach, stretch, bend and grasp on a very frequent basis. Be capable of operating construction machinery such as a front-end loader and others as necessary. Individuals must be able to communicate orally and in writing.
Examples of Position Tasks: (Illustrative only and not all inclusive) The Transfer Station Manager plans, organizes, operates, evaluates, implements and maintains the various aspects of the transfer station, making recommendations to maximize the efficiency of the overall system. Assures that the operations comply with all applicable local, state and federal laws, rules and regulations. Assists with the annual budget. Communicates with Town Recycling Committee and promotes recycling education. Assures that specific contracts for the disposal of solid waste items are current and contacts the vendors as needed. On a daily basis takes on assignment with the operations of the transfer station including but not limited to separation and sorting work, bailing, packaging, machinery repair, assisting citizens in unloading and loading materials, assisting in the transfer of processed materials to approved vendors. Individuals must be able to provide optimum customer service. Develop reports for local, regional and state agencies as required. Collection of fees as established, assuring proper recording. Serves as the division representative to other local committees as needed. Deals with conflicts that arise at the transfer station. Takes on additional assignments as needed or required.
Position Eligibility Standards: 5 Years of direct experience in this position or field.
Specialized Training: Principles and practices of solid waste management, organization, and operation and disposal; hazardous materials identification, handling, recycling and disposal; Supervision of personnel.
Pay to be determined on qualifications and experience.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $55,000.00 - $59,000.00 per year
