The University of Maine System is accepting applications for an Engagement and Events Manager for the Maine Graduate and Professional Center (the Maine Center) located in the Old Port in Portland, Maine. The Engagement & Events Manager will support the coordination, management, promotion and delivery of events, and support of community engagement at the Maine Center. The Maine Center is seeking an enthusiastic individual that is detail oriented, collaborative, tech savvy, passionate about customer service and event management, and experienced in leveraging social media for promotion and outreach. This is a highly visible role primarily focused on event and meeting management and supporting partners located at the Maine Center.
The Maine Center is a signature initiative of the Harold Alfond Foundation’s $320 million investment in the UMS, known as UMS TRANSFORMS. The Maine Center is an interdisciplinary graduate and professional center and innovation hub for entrepreneurs, researchers and UMS partners focused on advancing Maine’s economy. The Maine Center opened at 300 Fore Street in January 2023 and is currently expanding its footprint next door at 7 Custom House Street which will provide additional space for academics, innovation and entrepreneurship, and premier events and meetings.
The annual salary range is between $60,000 and $64,000, depending on qualifications and experience, plus a 10% employer contribution to the UMS retirement plan. Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Direct experience in event management, external affairs and experience producing high-quality creative content for social media.
- Demonstrated knowledge of organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community.
- Customer centric mindset with contagious enthusiasm for providing solutions and exceeding a customer and/or partner’s expectations.
- A proactive and collaborative working style with a result focused approach.
- Ability to utilize and troubleshoot technology for purposes of event management and execution.
- Demonstrated self-starter with the ability to prioritize multiple projects, while ensuring attention to details.
- Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills.
- The ability to move event and meeting space furniture or related equipment (i.e. AV, boxes, etc.) weighing up to 40 pounds, positioning them on wheeled carts and transporting them around our space, including on and off elevators and through doorways.
Preferred:
- Familiarity or experience with the workings of a college/university and/or innovation spaces.
- Work experience of at least three (3) or more years working on events, external affairs, and/or a related position in hospitality.
