Established in 1922 as a private golf club, The Purpoodock Club in Cape Elizabeth, Maine is conveniently located within five miles of Greater Portland's coastal communities of South Portland, Portland and Scarborough. The club features a distinctive and walkable 18-hole championship golf course with spacious practice areas. The Purpoodock Club offers fine dining and banquet facilities for weddings, special occasions and outside functions in our newly renovated club house. The club also offers casual dining and lounge facilities for members, along with Pro Shop, lockers and club storage. The Purpoodock Club has 369 members, 323 of which have golfing privileges.

Position Overview:

The General Manager will have the responsibility of the entire operations and will report to the Board of Governors, comprised of 7 members each serving staggered three-year terms. The General Manager will be asked to participate on several member-involved and Governor led committees.

The General Manager will have a management team that includes a Head Golf Pro, Superintendent, Food and Beverage Manager, Executive Chef, Membership and Events Director and Office Manager/Bookkeeper.

The General Manager will also indirectly supervise all employees of the club.

The General Manager will be key in promoting member satisfaction, employee engagement, and operational success. Prior food and beverage, hospitality and function experience will be critical in this role as well as marketing and retention experience.

Other experiences and skills would include a strong attention to detail, creating a culture of teamwork, demonstrated oral and written communication, creative programming and a willingness to “give it your all” for the club.

The ideal candidate would come with prior private club experience, with a proven track record of running a successful operation as a General Manager, Assistant General Manager or Clubhouse Manager. They will have a minimum of a bachelors degree, with strong business acumen and a very high level of accountability.

Pay: $130,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
