Chewonki is hiring a dedicated full-time Cook to join our team! If you're passionate about preparing wholesome meals from scratch and maintaining high standards in food safety and kitchen cleanliness, this role is for you! Work under the guidance of our Kitchen Manager to craft balanced and visually appealing dishes for our programs, staff, and special events. You'll help with dietary needs, maintain inventory, and uphold Chewonki's commitment to sustainability and community values.
- Location: Wiscasset, Maine (On Campus, in-person)
- Reports to: Kitchen Manager
- Permanent Position: Anticipated start date November, 2024
- Schedule: Full Time; including Weekends and Evenings
- Rate of Pay: $17 - $19/hour

Key Responsibilities Summary:
- Meal Preparation: Cook and serve balanced, visually appealing meals and snacks on schedule, accommodating dietary and allergy requirements, and providing food details as needed. Prepare menu boards and assist with event catering.
- Cleaning: Keep the kitchen clean, store leftovers, complete deep-cleaning tasks, and maintain organized inventory, following waste reduction and composting protocols.
- Food Safety: Adhere to food safety standards as per Maine and ACA guidelines, maintaining a current ServSafe® or food handler certification.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 17 years of age.
- Must pass Criminal Background Check.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, and have reliable transportation.
- Commercial kitchen experience preferred, preferably in an institutional setting.
- Current ServSafe® or food handler certification.
- Knowledge of food allergies and special dietary requirements desirable.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds.
- Maintain physical mobility and endurance to perform tasks while standing/walking for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions.
- Must be able to safely use kitchen equipment, including knives, slicers, food processors and mixers.
