Yankee Marina & Boatyard is seeking a skilled and motivated Marine Diesel Mechanic for a permanent, year-round position. This role is ideal for a hands-on technician who takes pride in quality work, enjoys problem-solving, and values strong relationships with customers and teammates. For the right candidate we are willing to train and mentor. You don’t need to have years of experience—we’re happy to train and mentor the right person. Position Overview
The Marine Diesel Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, servicing, repairing, and installing marine diesel engines and related mechanical systems. The ideal candidate is technically proficient, safety-minded, adaptable, and customer-oriented, with the ability to communicate clearly throughout the lifecycle of a project.
Qualifications & Technical Skills
One (1) year of diesel mechanic school or a minimum of three (3) years of hands-on diesel engine experience
We are willing to train someone who has a mechanical background if they are the right fit.
Yanmar experience desired
Familiarity with additional marine mechanical systems (fuel, cooling, exhaust, drivetrain, electrical, etc.)
Ability to accurately diagnose issues, estimate labor and materials, and execute repairs efficiently
Propensity to identify and report issues found
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical work to customers and crew
Comfortable working independently or as part of a collaborative marine service team
Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 lbs
Regularly required to climb, crawl, crouch, kneel, reach, and work in confined spaces
Ability to work on vessels on land and in the water, in varying weather and seasonal conditions
Commitment to maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area at all times
Consistent adherence to safety procedures and best practices, and speak fluent English
Ability to manage time effectively and complete projects on schedule without sacrificing quality
Flexible and dependable, with a willingness to assist in other boatyard tasks as needed
Customer-focused, professional, and courteous when interacting with boat owners and crew
Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and pride in craftsmanship
Team-oriented mindset with a desire to learn, grow, and contribute to a high-performing crew
