SHS - Residential Remodeling and Renovation
-----
I’m looking for a full time carpenter.
I take on a broad range of interior and exterior projects- small additions, decks, kitchen/bath, case/millwork and trim. Self perform all carpentry, most installation, most everything but pipes wires and drywall.
As an owner-operator on the tools but dedicated to the business, I need another competent and hardworking person. Either someone more skilled that I at the craft who can work independently, direct and manage a helper or sub when required, and maintain the professional and kindhearted communication that we offer our clients --OR-- someone young and bright with an inclination to work with their hands who is eager to learn what I'm able to teach and grow into a critical position in the business.
I've been "in business" 5 years, but 26' will be my third year 100% on my own clients and not subbing. I've had a mix of some part time guys over the past couple years, but I'm at the point where my production capacity is the primary bottleneck, and I'm often having to chose between delivering the product or working on the business too often.
I'm young in the trades and in business, and still truly enjoy wearing the bags and seeing the projects realized. I am not looking to transition into a full-time earpiece-phonecall-trucksitting-coffeedrinking-paperpushing guy; but as the season and position develop, the goal is for me to be on site 75% of the working week, and to utilize the rest of the business hours for admin/sales/pre-con etc. that is currently dominating my nights and weekends.
What You'll Do:
* Execute high-quality work on projects within 20 miles of Portland, occasionally farther afield
* Assist with project management, occasionally coordinating sub-trades
* Work efficiently independently as well as directly with me, helpers, and our clients
* Offer creative solutions to the challenges that arise in day-to-day operations
* Represent our values and maintain our reputation on and off the site
Qualifications:
* Solid carpentry experience and technical skills
* Problem-solving ability and attention to detail
Non-negotiable requirements:
* A moral compass, humility, and strong sense of personal agency and responsibility
* Reliable transportation, valid license, and some of your own basic tools or willingness to acquire them
* Good communication skills
* A sense of humor and the common sense to know your audience
* No active substance use disorders
Whats in it for you:
This is the absolute fetal stage of what I hope to grow into a small boutique operation focused on quality and clients over volume. Our clients choose us because they trust our integrity, work, and the experience they’ll have while we plan and deliver it. If you come to work here you won’t have the comforts or complications of working for a large shop- but you’ll trust that from day one every investment of your time, energy, mojo that you can make will be acknowledged, appreciated, and compensated fairly; and that you’ll have a place and a stake in whatever we’re able to achieve.
We'll review progress and performance quarterly to evaluate your compensation and you'll receive a tool/gear stipend.
I'm hoping to find someone interested in more than skilled labor and craft - someone who sees the potential upside in shouldering an essential role in the early days of a growing business.
If you're looking for a position where your skills are valued and you can grow professionally while working with a straightforward owner who values the craftsman, the client, and the positive collaboration of a project well done- I’d love to connect and see if it could be a good fit for you.
