Full-Time Animal Caretaker – Nonprofit Animal Sanctuary (Buxton, Maine)

We are seeking a dedicated Full-Time Animal Caretaker to provide compassionate and expert care for our diverse residents, including cows, horses, sheep, goats, chickens, and other animals that come into our care.
Responsibilities:

Daily care and feeding of animals, ensuring proper nutrition and hydration.

Regular health checks for animals, administering medications or treatments as necessary.

Grooming and maintaining the cleanliness of animals and their living areas.

Managing animal behavior, ensuring the safety and well-being of the animals and sanctuary staff.

Assisting with the creation and maintenance of animal enrichment activities.

Cleaning and maintaining barns, animal shelters, and other facilities.

Collaborating with the sanctuary team to develop and implement animal care plans.

Ensuring compliance with all safety protocols and ethical standards in animal care.

Assisting with any rescue operations and integration of new animals into the sanctuary.

Educating visitors about our mission, the animals, and our commitment to a vegan lifestyle.
Qualifications:

A deep love and respect for all animals.

Previous experience in animal care, farming, or similar roles preferred.

Knowledge of the specific needs and behaviors of cows, horses, sheep, goats, chickens, and other animals.

Ability to handle physical tasks such as lifting and moving animals or heavy objects.

Strong communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team.

Must adhere to a vegan lifestyle and align with the sanctuary’s mission of compassion and ethical treatment for all animals.

Willingness to work in all weather conditions and be flexible with work hours (including weekends and holidays).

New England Animal Sanctuary- NEAS is a small queer and women led sanctuary for farmed animals located in Buxton,ME (about 30 minutes from Portland, ME.) New England Animal Sanctuary is a newly formed organization. We obtained 501(c)3 status in 2022. Our mission is to save as many non-human animals that have been impacted by cruel practices and are at risk of death as we can by housing them on land that allows them to live happily for the rest of their natural lives. We provide proper nutrition, safe housing and medical care to these animals. We spread the message of the benefits of plant-based diets through advocacy and education as a way to protect animals, the environment and our health. We provide education on the detrimental effects of the current meat and dairy industries, such as, but not limited to, animal cruelty, environmental degradation and the negative impacts to human health. We are committed to educating the public about exploitation and abuse that occurs daily to non- human animals and human workers within industries that are exploitative and abusive.
