Training and Development Manager
Back to Basics Behavioral Health Services | Maine | Full-Time | $26–$29/hr

You’ve done the frontline work. Now build what you wish you’d had on day one.
Back to Basics Behavioral Health Services is on a mission to eliminate the Section 28 waitlist in the state of Maine. We provide one-on-one, in-home behavioral health support for children and young adults — helping kids build social skills, develop daily living independence, and grow through real-world support, not just clinical treatment.
We’re hiring a Training and Development Manager to own the entire learning experience for our Behavioral Health Professionals (BHPs) — from the moment they’re hired through their ongoing professional development.
This isn’t a role where you show up, read slides, and check a compliance box. Our BHPs work alone in family homes. For many of them, the training you lead will be their most consistent connection to our organization. You’re not just teaching skills — you’re building the professional community that keeps people supported, growing, and staying.
What you’ll own:
- New-hire orientation — you run it, you shape it, you make it the reason new BHPs show up ready to do the work. Orientation is fully virtual, which means this role can have flexibility.
- Workshops — monthly sessions that sharpen skills, address real challenges BHPs face in the field, and keep our team connected.
- ECGs (Everyone Connects and Grows meetings) — you facilitate group supervision sessions that help BHPs reflect on their practice and grow professionally.
- CPR & First Aid certification — you ensure every BHP is certified and current, running monthly certification sessions.
- 90-day treatment plan updates — you own the clinical documentation for clients whose treatment plans require changes at their 90-day review, keeping our services current and compliant.
- Cross-training on clinical administration — you’ll build proficiency in ITP creation and ACENTRA submissions so the team has backup coverage and you understand the full lifecycle of the services we deliver.
You might be the right person if:
You must have one of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in human services or a related field and at least 2 years of related experience
- Master’s degree in human services or a related field and at least 1 year of related experience
And:
- You’ve trained adults in behavioral health, human services, special education, or a related field — and you know the difference between talking at people and actually teaching them.
- You must understand clinical service delivery. This role requires someone who can write and develop treatment plan goals, and speak the language of Section 28 services.
- You can energize a room — even a virtual one. When a new hire’s first day could feel like death by module, you’re the person who makes it feel like the start of something meaningful.
- You’re organized and can manage orientation cycles, monthly workshops and ECG sessions, certification tracking, 90-day ITP deadlines, and content development simultaneously without things falling through cracks.
- You care about retention, not just education. You understand that good training keeps people connected to an organization.
- You know your way around a computer and feel confident using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and other technology used in everyday operations.
What we offer:
$26–$29/hour, full-time. This role will be a hybrid of remote and in person. Orientation and CE sessions are conducted virtually. Evening orientation runs Monday through Thursday, 4–8 PM, during the third week of each month and an evening ECG runs one session a month from 6–8 PM.
A leadership role with real ownership. You’ll shape the training experience for every BHP in the organization, backed by a team that values people who think critically, speak up, and build systems that actually work.
How to set yourself apart:
If you really want to impress us, send a short video telling us one thing: What’s the best training session you ever led, and what made it work?
The first time we talk, ask us where you should send that video.
If we’re a fit, here’s what the process looks like: a pre-screening call, a first interview focused on your experience and approach, a take-home skills assessment with real scenarios you’d face in this role, and a second interview where you’ll teach us something for 10–15 minutes. We want to see you do the job, not just talk about it.
