Executive Director
Founded in 2017, the mission of the St. George Community Development Corporation (“StGCDC”) is to make the five villages of St. George livable for all residents. To build a resilient, connected, and caring community for all, we focus on four impact areas: Community Resilience, Education and Economic Development, Housing, and Health and Wellbeing.
We are seeking an Executive Director (“ED”). This individual will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for the StGCDC’s current staff and programs and will spearhead the StGCDC’s expansion into new programs in furtherance of our mission. The ED will report to the Board of Directors.
Responsibilities
Leadership & Management:
- Ensures ongoing programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems; recommends timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals.
- Actively engages and energizes donors, staff, and volunteers. Has professional rapport with local, regional, and state partnering organizations. Works well with funders.
- Develops, maintains, and supports a strong Board of Directors. Works closely with Board to refine strategic mission of the StGCDC and to seek ways to become a model to other communities.
- Is skillful at balancing between oversight and delegation of responsibilities to staff members and volunteers.
- Works with Program Manager to ensure effective data capture and analysis of programs, makes strategic decisions about scaling our efforts, and can communicate about those decisions to assorted constituencies.
Fundraising:
- The ED is the chief fundraiser. This individual must be able to work well with individual donors, small and large granting agencies, and governmental funders. As our programming grows, so, too, do our funding needs.
- Must be able to maintain existing donor base while expanding it with targeted giving to our annual campaigns and endowment.
- Excellent, ongoing communication with stakeholders.
Planning & New Endeavors:
- The StGCDC recently acquired its first parcel of land for workforce housing. The new ED will be expected to oversee planning, funding, and construction of these dwellings.
- Begin to build partnerships with kindred organizations in Maine to share best practices and hone our model in hopes of sharing it with others nationwide.
- Become an expert in the synergistic space created via the StGCDC’s programs. Be able to communicate about the needs and solutions to local, regional, and national audiences.
Qualifications
The ED will be the thought leader for the Saint George Community Development Corporation. We expect this individual to be passionate about our programs and the possibilities for transformation that organizations like ours offer. Candidates should have proven leadership, coaching, and relationship management experience.
Specific requirements include:
- Undergraduate or graduate degree and at least five years of management experience. A track record of effectively leading and growing an organization and staff.
- Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, to set and achieve strategic objectives, and to develop and manage a budget. Priority given to candidates who have worked effectively with volunteers as well as paid staff members.
- Proven ability to work with a Board of Directors and to cultivate relationships with existing and prospective board members.
- Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills.
- Entrepreneurial, hands-on leadership style.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people.
- An abiding belief in the power of community to come together to solve problems.
Compensation and Benefits
This is a full-time position. Salary range is $95,000 - $110,000 commensurate with experience. Benefits include 104 hours of paid time off, all federal holidays, a Health Reimbursement Account, professional development, and other benefits approved by the Board.
