MAINTENANCE

- POSITION DESCRIPTION**: The General Maintenance Technician (GMT)
supports the department of Maintenance using best practices by providing
a safe, clean, and well-maintained facility; performing maintenance
repairs, event support; managing workflow; assisting athletic grounds
needs, participating in the on-call program and assisting with special
work orders.
- POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Provide a Safe, Clean, And Well-maintained Facility By
- Work on athletic grounds and fields to ensure safe competition
through support and work performance. Mowing, trimming, fertilizing,
weeding etc.
- Basic repairs; and assistance to plumbers, carpenters, painters,
HVAC technicians, electricians, and locksmiths, upgrading and repair
projects with approval from the Maintenance Supervisor
- Maintaining and being responsible for tools and equipment used in
maintenance work areas as well throughout the campus
- Identifying and reporting code issues, safety concerns, or issues of
importance to the attention of immediate supervisor, in a timely
manner
- Removing waste from buildings and grounds and disposes it in its
proper location
- Maintaining all worksites safe and clean, and free of hazards, on a
continuous basis, and leaves completed worksites in equal-to or
better than initial conditions
- Providing a welcoming atmosphere, being committed and available to
resolve service issues and sharing information to ensure excellent
service
- Adhering to SJC standards for assigned uniform and acceptable attire
- Aiding and assisting visiting public through answering questions and
providing directions within campus; aids and assists the campus
community through answering questions regarding the campus
facilities and assisting in procuring repairs, maintenance, and
services offered by Facilities Management
- Event support: setting up and breaking down event furniture.
Accountabilities
- Quality/Workmanship: Performs all work to high quality standards.
Less than 5% of work orders require call-back attention
- Productivity: Completes work volume in timely fashion. Less than 5%
of medium and high priority work orders delayed beyond target
assigned due date
- Follow through: Completes work under own initiative; brings issues
impacting completion to the attention of supervisor immediately
Manage Workflow By
- Maintaining daily work order status via departmental work order
system and related procedures
- Attending to work on the timetables and priorities as designated
- Following plans and schedules as assigned, adjusts priorities as
directed
- Submitted time and material tracking information on a daily basis
- Adhering to time and attendance policies, gives appropriate notice
when requesting time off
- Maintaining all records and documentation per departmental
procedural requirements
- Demonstrating adaptability, civility, respect, reliability,
integrity in all situations
Participates in the \"on call\" program. On-call for one week periods
And/or Weekend Periods On a Rotating Schedule By
- Requesting and obtains approval prior to altering position within
departmental rotation schedule
- Participating in the Facilities Management essential personnel and
24-hour Winter Management/Snow Removal plan
- MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**:
- High school education
- Must have a valid drivers license, complete a driver training
program and ave an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules,
operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES**:
General knowledge and skills related to light maintenance work
Good understanding of institutional building maintenance operations
Familiarity with applicable building codes, common construction
practices, and maintenance standards
Familiarity with the following trades: plumbing, HVAC, electricity,
rough and finish carpentry, painting, and locksmithing
Good reading, writing, and math skills
Excellent Customer Service Skills Required
Must work cooperatively and professionally with a wide variety of
College personnel as well as outside vendors and contractors.
Must work cooperatively with others and deal courteously with students,
faculty, staff, and co-workers
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written,
oral diagram, or schedule form
Ability to concentrate and follow through on all assignments to
completion
