ABOUT THE POSITION

Our Custodians work within the Public Housing Program. This position is responsible for a variety of tasks, required to keep common areas, both inside and outside clean, and orderly. Functions include but are not limited to; cleaning of restrooms, removal of trash, washing and waxing of floors, mowing grass, and snow removal..

EXAMPLES OF WORK

Performs custodial tasks as instructed in administrative offices, common space, rest rooms, kitchens, and vacant units, including; cleaning, restocking needed supplies, trash removal, washing and waxing floors.
Performs stripping of floors in all common space annually.
Performs minor maintenance tasks in common areas as needed, including; replacement of light bulbs, switch plates, outlet covers and smoke detector batteries.
Performs variety grounds work as instructed, including; litter pickup, grass mowing, raking and trimming and snow removal.
Performs related tasks required, which may include; completion of work orders, materials pick-up and transport, trash removal and transport, and tracking of time and material used.
Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.

REQUIREMENTS OF WORK Must possess valid State of Maine motor vehicle operator’s license.

Must possess knowledge of the hazards and applicable safety precautions in building maintenance.
Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, as well as elderly, and low-income PHA tenants.
Must be able to follow work plans and work independently to complete tasks.
Must possess the working knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and materials used in building maintenance and cleaning
Must be able to operate buffing and stripping machine.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Minimum requirements include: a high school diploma or equivalent, two years of relevant experience in the custodial field a plus. This position is a 40 hour, full-time, benefits eligible position covered by the AFSCME Council 93 union.
